I intend to purchase 2 of the same radios, one of which will reside in my go-box and one which will be installed in my new car (that I do not own yet). One of the things that attracted me to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alinco.com\/Products\/ham\/mbl\/DR-735\/\"> was the crossbanding feature.<\/a>\u00a0 Another was that it was not yaesu\\icom.<\/p>\n<p>Another one of the things that attracted me to the Alinco&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alinco.com\/Products\/ham\/mbl\/DR-735\/utildown.html\">DR-735 Clone Utility<\/a> was the programming software &#8230; which is actually terrible and undocumented. I&#8217;m going to relate a few things about the programming software as I haven&#8217;t seen any documentation.\u00a0 Hopefully this will help someone having a bonehead day.<\/p>\n<p>First &#8211; it requires .Net 4.5 which is happily installs &#8230; with a japanese installer.\u00a0 Good thing we just keep clicking next right?\u00a0 Ugh.\u00a0 But it does actually install, and run.<\/p>\n<p>Configuring channels is hard &#8211; let&#8217;s export from my CHIRP config and remix that to import as the clone utility.\u00a0 But &#8230; it appears that the cvs import is broken.\u00a0 I received strange errors like &#8220;Subtone NG : Line=3&#8221; until I managed to craft a CVS file that the program was happy with:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/subtone.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-981\" src=\"https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/subtone-300x176.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"176\" srcset=\"https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/subtone-300x176.png 300w, https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/subtone-768x450.png 768w, https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/subtone.png 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once I was able to edit my cvs file to match the exported format from the software, &#8230; I was barely able to import simplex channels. I could not load repeaters from the cvs file (even one that was exported by the software itself). I don&#8217;t understand the problem and ended up putting in the first memory manually. Copy\/paste does work though, so once you struggle through setting up the first repeater you can copy\\paste and then edit the rest:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/goodcvs.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-979\" src=\"https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/goodcvs-300x176.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"176\" srcset=\"https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/goodcvs-300x176.png 300w, https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/goodcvs-768x450.png 768w, https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/goodcvs.png 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/import.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-980\" src=\"https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/import-300x176.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"176\" srcset=\"https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/import-300x176.png 300w, https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/import-768x450.png 768w, https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/import.png 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But here&#8217;s what really screwed me up (for to long).\u00a0 If you&#8217;re working on a smaller computer, like a netbook you&#8217;ll get a cryptic error message.\u00a0 If you&#8217;ve worked serial ports before you&#8217;ll instinctively know what the problem is.\u00a0\u00a0 Until you get a larger screen though, you won&#8217;t be able to do anything about it.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s from a VM shrunk down:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/VirtualBox_Win7_10_03_2018_20_13_48.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-977 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/VirtualBox_Win7_10_03_2018_20_13_48-300x204.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"204\" srcset=\"https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/VirtualBox_Win7_10_03_2018_20_13_48-300x204.png 300w, https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/VirtualBox_Win7_10_03_2018_20_13_48-768x521.png 768w, https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/VirtualBox_Win7_10_03_2018_20_13_48.png 961w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>And here&#8217;s from a VM that I left at the full 1920&#215;1080 of my new computer:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/VirtualBox_Win7_10_03_2018_20_17_15.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-978\" src=\"https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/VirtualBox_Win7_10_03_2018_20_17_15-300x153.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"153\" srcset=\"https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/VirtualBox_Win7_10_03_2018_20_17_15-300x153.png 300w, https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/VirtualBox_Win7_10_03_2018_20_17_15-768x393.png 768w, https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/VirtualBox_Win7_10_03_2018_20_17_15-1024x524.png 1024w, https:\/\/soliloquyforthefallen.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/VirtualBox_Win7_10_03_2018_20_17_15.png 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>You&#8217;ll notice off in the right hand side a dropdown saying &#8220;COM3.&#8221;\u00a0 Yes, that&#8217;s right.\u00a0 You lose the option to configure the com port the clone software expects to use!\u00a0\u00a0 Once I tried a bigger monitor (for some reason the external display on my netbook goes to 1280) I was able to select the proper COM port and then only upload the first channel of my config.\u00a0 Turns out you have to select all the channels you want to upload.<\/p>\n<p>In my mind, the com port selection should be with the File\\Write menus, not where it can get lost.\u00a0 I can understand the CVS import failing (to an extent).\u00a0 But a properly crafted CVS, or indeed, one exported by the program itself should import more then just the simplex options in the config.<\/p>\n<p>I have to give the clone utility 1 star since it seems mostly broken.\u00a0 How does the radio follow suite?\u00a0 Suffice it to say I am glad I did not buy 2 from the start.\u00a0 I look forward to the radio functioning well enough that I have no reservations about buying a second.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I recently purchased a new VHF\\UHF radio.
